Fans To Present Peter Kay With Petition To Bring Back Car Share
Were you as big a fan of Peter Kay’s hilarious and heartwarming show as we were? Well, they’re might be some hopeful news about the programme, following the recent announcement that the programme won’t be returning for a third season.
Back at the beginning of May, Peter Kay confirmed the news live on BBC Radio Manchester, and even said there wouldn’t be a Christmas special.
When asked whether the characters in the programme would take to listening to BBC Radio Manchester over their favoured Forever FM, Peter replied, “There’s not going to be a series three, so it would never happen! You’ve got to get out while the going’s good. No Christmas special, no.”
The news left fans who believed the show had ended on a cliffhanger gutted, and desparate to see what happened to their two favourite characters.
But it seems hope is not lost. A to bring back the programme for a third series is gaining huge traction, and has already got over 9,800 signatures.
When the petition reaches 10,000 signatures, it’s creator, Ryan Williams even plans to send it off to Peter Kay himself, in a bid to show just how much people want the show back.
Ardent fans of the show have said that it “makes them feel proud to be from the North”, while another said that “When I feel down it’s the only thing I look forward to.” Ryan himself wrote how he believed that it had “been a tonic for people in dark times”.
However, at the beginning of May, actor and comedian Peter revealed that he believes the programme should quit while it’s ahead. He said, “I am absolutely delighted and overwhelmed by everybody’s support and the fact that everyone’s loved it so much has been wonderful for everyone who’s made it, but you’re better quitting while you’re ahead.”
Peter went on to admit that he’s not sure where the show would go in a third season, saying “There’s only so much you can do in a car and the last thing you want to do is ruin it because I think it’s a lovely thing.”
Many fans of the show were hoping that Kay’s character would get toghether with Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson – – but it seems those dreams may be dashed, too! Although Kay spoke about how fun it has been working with Sian: “It’s been wonderful working with one of my closest friends in the world. We have a good laugh but I think sometimes you’ve got to just leave things. You need good ideas – that’s the problem. You need good strong stories.
“A lot of series tend to go on for one series too many, especially with comedies, and I think people say ‘ooh, it’s gone off, that’. If you’re struggling and you just get a sense when you’re writing that you might be running out of ideas, that’s when I think you should walk away.”
As they say, all things come to an end. But there could be a return to another popular comedy from Peter Kay – rememberPhoenix Nights, anyone?
When asked about the show, which ended in 2002, Kay said he’d love to go back to it, and that a third series has even been written already!
He said, “I lovePhoenix Nightsand I would love to go back. I’ve got a lot of ideas aboutPhoenix Nights.
“In fact there’s a whole series three been written for about 15 years but so many things get in the way in life, like touring and being a father.
